How NHS Spine Access Enable Improvement of Pharmacy Workflows How NHS Spine Access Enable Improvement of Pharmacy Workflows

Connected Pharmacy

  • New capability enables Camascope (formerly named VCare systems) to build connected pharmacy solution for complete management of pharmacy workflows.
  • Camascope's vision is to resolve inefficiencies and improve communication in healthcare.

Milestone

The latest connection to the NHS Spine represents a monumental step in delivering on this vision. This new capability will help to modernise pharmacy technology and to improve patient and pharmacist interactions.

Over the past couple of decades, customer service has drastically changed in almost every facet of life, yet for some reason the pharmacy has been left behind. However, picking up a prescription from a community pharmacy in 2022 has a near-enough identical experience to before the turn of the century.

Meaningful Change

Whilst this continuity in patient experience has contributed to that feeling of trust and familiarity which patients feel when visiting the pharmacy, it’s clear that there’s plenty of room for improvement.

At Camascope, we believe that patients should not need to wait to be served and then wait again whilst their prescription is being dispensed. Technology should make it easier for pharmacists to provide quality care, while also giving patients greater flexibility in how they pick up medication. Communication with patients should be seamless and be linked to dispensing activity. There should be a clear way for patients to see the status of their prescription, without the need to call up or wait in the pharmacy.

Fortunately, with the latest NHS Spine milestone, we will be able to create meaningful change in the pharmacy and help pharmacists form a deeper connection with their patients.

Community pharmacies represent the most accessible healthcare professionals available to the public. With the right level of information and context, the expertise of a pharmacist could be leveraged to have a more significant impact in improving patient health outcomes and wider public health.

Releasing Time

Recent studies have shown that robots are more effective than humans at dispensing drugs on the grounds that they never miss doses or forget steps. They therefore offer an invaluable service to patients with complicated prescriptions or those who need assistance with adherence[1]. In future years, we envisage pharmacists will be focusing less on routine dispensing work and more on creating personalised medicine plans for patients, as well as providing a diagnosis and referral function for wider healthcare. The expertise of a pharmacist will be utilised to provide advice on vaccinations, travel consultations, and child health assessments.

We are building pharmacy technology with this vision for the future firmly in mind. Camascope's new Pharmacy Solution will improve dispensing efficiency and release valuable pharmacist time. The system will provide pharmacists with the tools to provide a more personalised experience for their patients.
