eMAR: An Outstanding Story

Written by Camascope Stories | Aug 25, 2023 2:51:53 PM

Bramley Court has achieved an Outstanding rating from the CQC. This is a remarkable accomplishment, with only seven care homes inspected with an overall Outstanding rating over the past three-months. It’s a clear indication of the commitment at Bramley Court of providing top-quality care

To gain deeper insights into the benefits of Camascope eMAR in their care home, we had the privilege of speaking with Jade, a Senior Nurse at Bramley Court. We spoke with Jade about how the implementation of Camascope's eMAR system has played a significant role in elevating the standard of care, enhancing efficiency, and ensuring resident safety

In their recent outstanding CQC report, Bramley Court's robustly evidenced medication administration processes were highlighted as a critical factor in the safe use of medicines.

Jade, who is a Senior Nurse within the Dementia Community Ward at Bramley Court, shared, "This is the easiest form of medicine administration from ever working in care and in hospital. I believe electronic Medication Administration Records (eMAR) are key to improving the quality of care. One of the advantages of moving to eMAR, which we hadn’t actually anticipated, is the clearing of unattended trolleys from communal areas. This makes the environment more homely for residents, and less like a hospital. With trolleys out the way, resident and medication checks can be performed within the privacy of their rooms using the Camascope mobile tablet."

"From a clinical point of view, eMAR is much better than using traditional paper MAR. The digital format is clearer for us, and the app’s chronological display of administration schedules improves round efficiency. The extra time savings help care staff to dedicate more time to delivering personalised care.”

"The benefits of eMAR are particularly helpful in managing the requirements of dementia residents. For instance, if a resident refuses medication, care staff can easily mark the medication as refused but still go back to that administration with all the notes recorded regarding what has happened. Paper MAR charts are more static with administration changes more difficult to represent. This feature of Camascope's eMAR helps care to remain person-centred and adaptable to each resident's needs."

"eMAR also makes it much simpler in situations where a resident needs to leave the care home, such as for temporary hospitalisation. It promotes a seamless transition of care by allowing the printing of a paper MAR chart to give to emergency services. This ensures that the resident receives the correct medication, maintaining consistency in their care even outside the home."

"When it comes to CQC inspections, eMAR simplifies the process of evidencing medication safety. Logging and archiving MAR charts online provides easy access to records whenever required. eMAR also reduces the risk of human and medication errors. Care staff can trust the accuracy of the medication listed in the system, as it is directly sourced from the pharmacy, ensuring the highest level of safety and quality in medication administration, and the CQC understands this.”

Bramley Court's adoption of Camascope's eMAR system exemplifies their commitment to delivering outstanding care. By leveraging innovative technology, they have created an environment prioritising resident well-being, efficiency, and safety.
